On duty as a volunteer

Eckart Neururer, the deputy head of organisation of the Karate World Championships 2016 worked as a volunteer with EYOF (European Youth Olympic Festival).

The idea of the EYOF is based on the initiative of the former IOC president, Mr. Jaques Rogge. The goal is to give athletes at an early age the chance to compete with international athletes in Olympic conditions. The EYOF is a very big multi-sport event with 49 participating countries and about 1.500 athletes aged between 14-18 years with their coaches. The 2015 festival was for the first time organised in cooperation of two countries: Austria and Liechtenstein. Host city was the region of Schruns-Tschagguns in Vorarlberg.

Mr. Neururer worked as a chauffeur for a team of investigators of NADA, Austria´s anti-doping agency. During his activities he got a lot of ideas of organisational issues and challenges of managing more than 1.000 volunteers in a big sport event. The experiencies will be very helpful in our preparatory work for Linz 2016.
